Beacon @ J.H.S 190 (ages 6-21+)
The Beacon Program is a comprehensive youth development center, which provides year-round, free programming for youth and young adults ages 6 to 21 as well as adults.  The program has a special focus on leadership development and skill building for teens ages 10 to 18.  

There is a 5-day/week after school program for middle school youth in grades 5 through 8.  Activities include educational enrichment and literacy, discussion groups on topics of interest middle school youth and that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills, arts, music, and dance, Cocoa House music program, counseling, sports and much more.  There is also open library access and a recording studio.  Peer counseling, peer tutoring and employment and volunteer activities are offered.   During the summer, an afternoon camp program is available to children ages 6 to11.  As part of its focus on building youth leadership and community involvement, a national demonstration program will engage junior high school students in a community civic and planning process.
